History Of Horrors

Anna-Christina, smoldering figurehead of the HMS Lilygun and primary songwriter, recruited her jocund crew through a series of dubious adverts and auditions. After several amusing misunderstandings involving two handsome refugees, kaftan rugs and a breathtaking selection of disposable razors, the all-female Queen Bee was formed in 2001. They honed their skills on the toilet circuit, and gradually built a small, but devout following.

Unfortunately, after being mistaken by promoters once too often for Queen B, the infamous Queen tribute band - "I don't get it - which one of you is Freddie?" - they felt it was time for a rethink. Following a short break, Anna-Christina reluctantly recruited a male guitarist in early 2002 and thus the first version of Lilygun was born, unleashing themselves onto an unsuspecting public in August with a blistering live set at the Kings Head in Fulham.

Four girls became three girls and a guy...

They recorded their first demo (a DIY job) at the end of that year and played intensively in venues around London.
A chance meeting with photographer Harald Haugan meant that from here on, they would have some seriously mean photos.

In the year of 2003 Anna-Christina re-arranged the band line-up and after exhausting auditions found a rather unusual new member. A bass player but not just any bass player... Piranha!
There was a weird and wonderful change with the arrival of Piranha.
He has his own way of doing just about everything and his personality shines through his playing. Piranha added a new dynamic to the band, not to mention his flamboyant sense of fashion! The band briefly played with another guitarist.

Three girls became two girls and a weird Japanese dude!

Blood, sweat and cursing led the NEW Lilygun to re-launch itself once again at The Kings Head on 25th September 2003. Their fan base increased during this time and the music became heavier and darker. With a slight Gothic sense to their image, the performances were more aggressive and the band began to grow to new heights. More guitars, more noise, more hair!!!.

heir second demo was recorded at the Euphonix Studio One at Alchemea.
The band line-up changed once again at the end of that year and Lilygun retreated to the shadows...

Another guitarist joined at the beginning of 2004 and this new line-up went on to record with Pig Music at their studio in Oxford. This slightly softer sounding version of Lilygun played solidly that year including successful gigs at The Metro Club on Oxford Street, Sound in Leicester Square and other venues in London.

September 2004 saw Lilygun make their first promo video that was filmed by Sam Bailey who stumbled across these alien beings at a gig. Out Of Line was the song, green gardens and roof tops the location and "time", the name of the game.

2005 proved to be the hardest year yet for Lilygun. An unpleasant experience at the beginning of the year concerning a female drummer who shall remain nameless, followed by months and months of searching for a new drummer was a real test for the group. Endless and rather obsessive auditioning kept the band out of the lime light during which they made what would be the first demo the public would be able to get their hands on.

This was a dark time for Anna-Christina who was forced to withdraw the band from the public eye but the demo that emerged proved that she continued to develop and progress no matter what shit came along to knock her on her arse! Resilient to say the least!

No more girls left in Lilygun except for Anna-Christina!

A slightly less Gothic and more Glamorous Lilygun emerged in June 2005 and they were back on the circuit playing gigs at The Barfly in Camden, The Bull & Gate and Storm in Leicester Square.
There were more twists and turns to the Lilygun story later in that year when the band found themselves immersed in the very distinct smell of bullshit provided by "the so called forth member"! A story for another time...

T
he crew joined forces with a new lead guitarist and friend of Anna-Christina's that same year. Lilygun returned to their heavier routes and a blast of raw energy rejuvenated them, catapulting them back into the edger Rock medium.
By the end of 2005, the band was on fire. A revitalized Lilygun stormed the Dublin Castle in Camden and played an awesome set to a jammed packed blood thirsty crowd. A date at the Marquee highlighted one of the best Lilygun gigs of that year but disaster was about to strike a few weeks later...
